Tokyo, JAPAN —Solar Power Network Japan K.K. (SPN), a distributed power generation company based in Tokyo and headquartered in Canada, is pleased to announce the completion of a rooftop solar installation at the Fuji East terminal treatment center in Fuji City, Shizuoka prefecture. The opening ceremony to commemorate the completion was held on December 14.

The project was won by a joint venture created by SPN and JAG Kokusai Energy (JAG) . The installation was designed and developed by SPN, and constructed by JAG. The output of the system is approximately 1.1MW which will meet approximately 24% of the annual electricity demand. The facility is grid connected with contracts under Japan’s Feed-In Tariff system and all the electricity it generates is sold under this scheme to TEPCO.

The PV system will make good use of the sewage plant’s unused rooftop by producing renewable energy. One of the features of this project is to supply emergency power in case of a grid failure during a disaster.

This is the second installation executed by the SPN and JAG joint venture. Fuji West terminal, the largest rooftop solar system in the prefecture, was grid connected in March 2014. The total output of the two solar power systems accounts for approximately 2.3MW (DC).

“SPN is pleased to support Fuji City with its continued commitment to sustainability by utilizing their assets to provide clean, renewable energy.  With the completion of this second site, we are now operating a total of 2.3MW right at the foot of Mount Fuji.  This marks a significant step for SPN in its mission to expand distributed generation in Japan.” said Mr. Peter Goodman, CEO and President of Solar Power Network.
